DID YOU KNOW GYAN JYOTI FATIMA?

Fatima Sheikh was an Indian educator and a social reformer who was a colleague of social reformer Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. 

She is widely considered to be India’s first Muslim woman teacher. Fatima Sheikh was the sister of Usman Sheikh, in whose house Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule took up residence. One of the first muslim women teachers of modern India she started educating Bahujan children in Phule’s school. She was also known as Gyan Jyoti. Tributes were paid on their birth month in January saluting them for advancing education for girls.
